Starting at Glenfinnan at the head of Loch Shiel and finishing at the ruins of Castle Tioram on Loch Moidart.
Loch Shiel and Loch Moidart are joined together by the River Shiel. Over a two day guided canoe trip you will paddle on all three, in one of our Hou Prospector canoes, which each have their own unique beauty and characteristics.
Loch Shiel is an inland loch, starting at Glenfinnan. Here you may see the “Harry Potter” steam train as you paddle along the water, or catch a glimpse of an Eagle soaring above. As you get closer to the other end, there are small islands, only accessible by boat which, time allowing, you can explore.
After passing the village of Acharacle, you will paddle along the slow moving waters of River Shiel until, just before it meets Loch Moidart, we may need to portage around a white water rapid, depending on the level of the tide.
Loch Moidart is a tidal Loch and at low tide you can walk out to Eilean Tioram which is host to the historic and spectacular Castle Tioram, which is at the end of our journey.
Weather conditions allowing, we will meet at Glenfinnan where we will provide you with all the essential equipment for this trip. We will paddle for around 6 hours on day 1, but with regular breaks. On arriving at our wild camping place for the night, your guide will prepare an evening meal while you pitch your tent. The following day after breakfast, we will continue our journey to Loch Moidart.
At the end of the trip, you will be transported back to your vehicle.
